One of my favorite Korean dishes is dduk gook (or rice cake soup). Surprisingly, I've found that it's actually pretty easy to make! Feel free to make any additions or changes to it :)
Ingredients:
5-6 spoons (or 1 fist haha) of bulgogi (marinated)
4 1/2 cups of water
1/2 bag of dduk (rice cake)
1/2 spoon of gook gan jang (soup soy sauce)
1/4 tsp of dashida
salt and pepper to taste
1 egg
green onion
Directions:
1. Put dduk in cold water for 10-20 minutes (set aside).
2. Fry bulgogi on medium high in pot.
3. Add water, gook gan jang, and dashida to bulgogi (and the bulgogi marinade that's with it) and bring to a boil.
4. Once boiling, add dduk and simmer for about 5 minutes.
5. Add egg.
6. Add chopped up green onion.
7. When egg is finished cooking, the soup should be done!
8. Add salt and pepper to taste (can also add more gook gan jang for more flavor too).
Enjoy! I generally sprinkle some gim (fried seaweed) on top of it and eat with kimchi for a good meal. I've also added mandoo (or dumplings) to this to make dduk mandoo gook before, which worked well.. I'm assuming adding other vegetables could be good too!
